Conventional current and Electron current
Electric current is due to flow of free electrons in the conductor. Before detailed study and understanding of electron flow properties, it was assumed current flows from positive(+) to negative(-) terminal of the battery. But this assumption is totally contrary to the actual flow of electric current. However, this assumption was not changed and kept as it is till date.
Convectional current in any electric circuit is the direction of flow of current from positive to negative terminal of the battery. Actual current flows due to drift of electrons in the conductor which is opposite to the convectional current.
